Professor José Carlos Cunha is part of the Collectif Didactiques des langues: supports, dispositifs, approches, politiques, founded in October 2009 by Agence Universitaire Francophone (AUF) and composed by the following research professors: Laurent Gajo, Université de Genève (Switzerland); Danièle Moore, Simon Fraser University (Canada); Wafa Berry, Université Libanaise (Lebanon); Philippe Blanchet, University of Haute Bretagne Rennes 2 (France); Eliane Lousada, University of São Paulo (Brazil) and Monica Vlad, Université Ovidius of Constanta (Romania).

In 2013, professor Marília de Nazaré Ferreira also established formal international cooperation with the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

International Cooperation Programs

Professor Walkyria Alydia Passos Grahl Magno e Silva coordinates at FALEM-UFPA the English Teaching Assistant Program - CAPES / Fulbright Program, through which American professors are brought to the undergraduate degree in English Language at several public Brazilian universities.

Globalization and culture

Professor Valéria Augusti is part of the project “The Transatlantic Circulation of Printings - the globalization of culture in the nineteenth century”, from the research group coordinated by professors Márcia Abreu (UNICAMP) and Jean-Yves Mollier (UVSQ), a cooperation that brings together 35 researchers from 20 research institutions, distributed in 4 countries (England, France, Portugal and Brazil).

National Program for Academic Cooperation

PPGL-UFPA has already participated in a project in cooperation with the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) through the CAPES National Academic Cooperation Program (PROCAD). The project was entitled “PROCAD UFPA-UERJ, contemplating Joint Activities between the Languages Graduate Programs and the Development, Circulation and Literary Production in Belém do Pará: 1850 to 1950”, which began in 2008, lasting four years, and extended until December 2013. The project involved ten Professors, five from UFPA and five from UERJ, with coordination shared by professors Germana Maria Araújo Sales (UFPA) and Roberto Acízelo Quelha de Sousa (UERJ). Through this cooperation, 16 students were able to complete the Sandwich Master’s, taking courses in Rio de Janeiro.

Interface with Basic Education

The project “The Challenge of Teaching Reading and Writing in the Context of Nine-Year Elementary School and Laptop Insertion in the Brazilian Public School” (CAPES / INPE) brings together researchers from the University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The sub-coordination that operates at the core of UFPA is under the responsibility of Professor Thomas Massao Fairchild and involves about ten faculty members of the Federal University of Pará School of Application (several of whom are graduates of PPGL-UFPA); It also involves a team of ten undergraduate students in Languages and about eight master's students from PPGL-UFPA. The project features regular seminars involving the three parties involved and their activities have a direct influence on basic education.

Research Group Participation

Several professors of the Program take part in Research Groups nationally. Professor Antonio Máximo Ferraz, coordinator of the research group Kairós Interdisciplinary Center - Thought of Art and Language (NIK / UFPA), is a participant in the Interdisciplinary Center of Poetic Studies, coordinated by Professor Manuel Antônio de Castro, from the Languages Graduate Program from UFRJ. Professor José Carlos Cunha, since 2011, has been a member of a multi / transdisciplinary integrated research group of the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP) that studies the transboundary society (Oiapoque-Guyana) and its geopolitical, environmental, historical-cultural and linguistic immensities by Professors Adelma das Neves Barros Nunes Mendes and Walter Avelar of UNIFAP. In 2013, the referred professor established a fruitful agreement with a professor from UFBA (Professor Edleise Mendes), through which they organized a book funded by FAPESPA (Pará State Research Support Foundation), published by Editora Pontes.

Professor Thomas Massao Fairchild participates in USP research groups. Professor Abdelhak Razky is a member of UFRJ and UFBA national groups. Professor Carmen Lúcia Reis Rodrigues is part of UNESP group, in cooperation with Professor Cristina Martins Fargetti regarding the studies of the languages ​​Xipaya and Juruna, which have the same Tupi origin. In 2013, Professor Carmen participated in a PhD defense board at UNESP / Araraquara.

In cooperation with UNICAMP and UFG, the Program has professor Marília de Nazaré Ferreira. With UFF and UFRJ, Professor Izabela Leal. And also, Professor Marilúcia Barros de Oliveira, who integrates research groups from UNB, UFRJ and UFBA.

Paraense Museum Emilio Goeldi

Professor Gessiane Lobato Picanço integrates research together with the Paraense Museum Emílio Goeldi (MPEG). The cooperation between this PPGL-UFPA professor and the Goeldi Museum researchers refers to studies undertaken by both parties on Tupi languages. With the Amazonas State University (UEA), the professor signed an agreement to attend the Intercultural Degree with the Mundurukú indigenous community. Professor Sidney da Silva Facundes has also cooperation with MPEG, whose role refers to studies on Aráwak languages.
