Currently, the Program is organized into two Areas of Concentration: Literary Studies and Linguistic Studies, each with three lines of research. Since 2023, we have been making our commitment to indigenous peoples, who have been present in our research throughout the history of the Program, effective by creating two new lines of research specifically focused on indigenous cosmologies, one in each Area of Concentration. This initiative was based primarily on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 20 - Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Communities.
This Area of Concentration brings together three lines of research, which encompass a diversity of objects and theoretical-methodological and epistemological perspectives in area of Linguistics. Its teaching staff is made up of 20 permanent professors and 01 collaborator. 05 professors are productivity scholarship holders from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development of Brazil and make up the teaching staff. (03 in category 1D and 02 in level 2).
LINE 01. ANALYSIS, DESCRIPTION AND DOCUMENTATION OF NATURAL LANGUAGES
Linguistic analyses with different theoretical-methodological positions. Evaluation and formulation of linguistic theories. The linguistic phenomenon in its social, cultural and historical context. Issues of linguistic planning and bilingual teaching. Discourse studies in its different aspects. Discursive practices in the areas of science, education, media, work contexts, politics and other institutional spaces.
LINE 02. TEACHING AND LEARNING OF LANGUAGES, CULTURES, MODELS AND ACTIONS
Studies related to the teaching and learning processes of native, second and foreign languages/cultures from different theoretical perspectives of pedagogical models and practices in formal and informal teaching and learning spaces; epistemological considerations on the constitution and evolution of the field; issues of language appropriation, didactic elaboration and didactic-pedagogical intervention and their articulation; issues concerning the constitution of subjects in teaching relationships; analysis of linguistic-educational policies, discourses in the educational field and their relations with teaching and learning spaces; training of language teachers.
LINE 03. INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES AND COSMOLOGIES
Analysis, documentation and description of indigenous languages, narratives, identities, linguistic policies and power relations. Respect for cultural and linguistic plurality. Indigenous cosmologies: unique forms of knowledge, their own cultural universes, although intensely fractured by colonization. New perspectives in academic research from the 20th century onwards.

LINE 1. LITERATURE, MEMORIES AND IDENTITIES
Studies of oral and written literature in dialogue with their historical, memorialist, social and cultural relations. Examination of works and authors from the perspective of power relations and forms of resistance. Identities and cultural diversities in their artistic expressions. Comparative analysis of cultural assets related to the alterities inherent to the context of Amazonian (indigenous) Latin American, African, and other life, in alignment with contemporary issues.
LÍNEA 2. LITERATURA: INTERPRETACIÓN, CIRCULACIÓN Y RECEPCIÓN
Estudios literarios en sus ámbitos crítico, teórico e historiográfico. Interpretación y traducción de obras de diferentes géneros literarios. La literatura como campo expandido y su relación con otras lenguas, artes y medios. Análisis de obras desde diferentes perspectivas teóricas y filosóficas. Estudio de los procesos de producción, recepción y circulación de textos literarios nacionales y extranjeros en Brasil, con énfasis en la Amazonia.
LINE 3. INDIGENOUS POETICS AND COSMOLOGIES
Study of cosmopolitical practices, expressive and poetic forms, and indigenous identities, their relationships with the cosmologies, knowledge, and cultural universes of each people. Interpretation and analysis of verbal, visual, plastic, and corporal arts, indigenous performances, and cinema, and their relationship with orality and writing; and with the production of writers and other artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, taking into account the Brazilian historical, cultural, and social context; investigation of decolonial and materialist theories and practices and their relationships with epistemic, racial, social, gender, and power issues; new perspectives in academic research from the 20th century onwards, considering indigenous intellectual production.
